Tim Soulo just published an article over at AHRefs measuring the length of time it takes an organic web page to achieve a Top 10 Ranking in Google! You can read the entire article Here
The metrics are mind blowing, though the research doesn’t take into account the affect of proper citation or link building, it does give an overall view of how painfully long it takes most websites to rank in Google, and generate any noticeable web traffic.
AHrefs tested 2 Million keywords, and sifted through their mass of historical ranking data, and calculated the average time it took a web page to achieve each position in the Top 10 of Google organic results. To achieve a number 1 ranking took an average of an astronomical 940 days (That’s almost 3 years!)
Other takeaways from the article:
- The average Top 10 ranking is 2+ years old
- Only 22% of the current pages ranking in the Top 10 are less than a year old.
- Almost 75% of web pages don’t EVEN crack the Top 100 during the first year!
So, if it takes this long to crack the Top rankings for a Business Website, and Google displays a Local Search Map Pack above these “so hard to get” organic listings, it’s just common sense to focus on the local search Google My Business rankings. Path of least resistance right?
At Search IQ, we already realized this fact, without all the specific numbers (But a big thanks to the guys at AHRefs for always giving the raw data life). If you want to know more about our services, contact our Local Search Success Managers -> Contact Search IQ Today !!!
